Idiom je ustálené slovné spojenie alebo fráza, ktorého význam je väčšinou iný ako je význam jednotlivých slov, z ktorých sa skladá. Môže to byť tiež slovné spojenie, ktoré je známe len určitej skupine ľudí, v niektorej krajine a pod. Idiomy sa vyskytujú aj v slovenčine, napríklad "Anglická gramatika je pre mňa španielska dedina." - čo znamená, že je pre vás nezrozumiteľná.
